Harold Streifer
Harold Streifer (1920-1984) was an Award Winning Impressionist artist, whose innate talent for painting became his life’s passion. Harold began painting at an early age and continued throughout his Army service during WWII.
When his service ended, he returned to Monticello, NY, where he operated an employment agency catering to the Catskill resorts.
It was during this time Harold honed his painting skills as a distraction from the constant pressures of the agency business.
Harold interpreted his surrounding landscapes with the eye of a Master.
His expressive portraits of the many diverse subjects he met on a daily basis, and incredibly emotional images from the Vietnam War period still touch our hearts today. Harold was an instructor and friend to many artists from across the region. The highlight toward the end of his life, was when he was asked to show select works at the Whitney Museum of Art where he was featured with other New York State artists.
